Mist Blue Mariner's Smock - Made To Order
Painters, Gardeners, Sailors, WWII Paratroopers, even Liam Gallagher - The Smock has been a driving force throughout the history of style dating all the way back to the Middle Ages. Each part of the world has it's own adaptation. In Europe during the 18th century, Breton and Cornish fisherman developed their version, primarily made from sailcloth, designed to protect their thick wool sweaters from getting soaked at sea. Here in the U.S. the smocks that came out of WWII were the first to make their way into civilian wear. Eventually in the 1950s and 1960s they would make their way into more recreational activities: Hiking, Fishing, Hunting, etc. Jump to the 1980s smocks entered into the preppy world via anoraks with zippers, hoods, snaps, even drawstring ties, adapting itself over time to the climate as well as the user. - Here at Morris & King we love the history of garments, and the smock's history is a fascinating one. We decided to blend together our favorite elements of the smock across the countless number of iterations created over the centuries. The oversized fit to be worn over a wool sweater like the sailor's in 18th century Europe, the popover placket and collar we lifted from the 1950s and 1960s US versions for outdoor adventures, the heavyweight denim from the 1940s British Army version, and lastly a button closure pocket so your possessions are secure no matter what century you're in.
